Bleaching: Did you know?
According to New York City cosmetic dentist
Steven Butensky, DDS, our saliva contains glycoproteins that adhere to the surface of the teeth, and this invisible layer is called the dental pellicle. The pellicle is removed [along with the stains] during professional cleanings, leaving the enamel more susceptible to stains. This is why it’s important to avoid dark foods and drinks for two to three hours after a cleaning to give the pellicle time to reform.
